Listen as Uriel reflects on Maturity and growing up.

How do you define maturity? Whether it’s something that comes with age or experiences, it all ties down to one thing: Self-growth. Self-growth is a truly complicated concept. There is no set age where growth is “done”, because we don’t know when a life event will change us.

Our ability to grow mentally is crucial for the type of goals we set and the way we handle situations. Typically, a mature person may want to learn and pursue a career of some sort. However, a person who lacks maturity may not have the same ambition or desire to better themselves. We have all been in situations of hardship or even conflicts that challenged our ability to make the right decision, along with taking responsibility into our own hands. The way we seem to be now, is not the way we have always been. How does this come to be?

MMJ Uriel Favela is joined by Daniel (University of Illinois Chicago), and Brian (City Colleges of Chicago)  who’ve both experienced their own sense of maturity. They discuss what made them mature and how they think their immaturity affected growing up. With the help of psychology professor David Guiden, we will into what maturity is and how it affects our lives.

Whether it’s a matter of choice, age, or experience, Guiden helps us understand how each factor may play in every situation. After hearing their experiences, we will be able to comprehend what both immaturity and maturity look like, along with how our ability to grow ties in with the way we live.
